Description

A hearty and protein-rich dish made with wheat, lentils, and chicken, perfect for Iftar.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup wheat, soaked overnight
  • 1/4 cup each of chana dal, moong dal, and masoor dal, soaked for 2 hours
  • 500g chicken, cut into pieces
  • 2 onions, finely sliced
  • 2 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 2 green chilies, chopped
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • 1/2 tsp cumin powder
  • 1/4 cup yogurt
  • 4 tbsp ghee or oil
  • Salt to taste
  • For garnish: fried onions, chopped coriander, lemon wedges

Instructions

    Cook the soaked wheat and lentils in 6 cups of water until soft and mushy.

    In a separate pot, heat ghee, add sliced onions and fry until golden brown.

    Add ginger-garlic paste and green chilies, sauté for 2 minutes.

    Add chicken pieces and cook until they change color.

    Add all the spices and yogurt, cook for 5 minutes.

    Add the cooked wheat and lentil mixture to the chicken.

    Cook on low heat for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

    Mash the mixture with a wooden spoon to get a paste-like consistency.

    Garnish with fried onions, coriander, and serve with lemon wedges.
