Description

Crispy triangular pastries filled with spiced potatoes and peas, a popular Iftar snack.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup oil
  • Water as needed
  • 3 potatoes, boiled and mashed
  • 1/2 cup green peas
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 green chilies, finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp ginger, grated
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • 1/4 cup fresh coriander, chopped
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for deep frying

Instructions

    Mix flour, oil, and salt. Add water gradually to make a firm dough. Cover and rest for 30 minutes.

    Heat oil in a pan, add cumin seeds and let them splutter.

    Add onions, green chilies, and ginger. Sauté until onions are translucent.

    Add peas and all the spices. Cook for 2 minutes.

    Add mashed potatoes and mix well. Cook for 5 minutes. Let the filling cool.

    Divide the dough into small balls. Roll each ball into a circle and cut in half.

    Form a cone with each half, fill with the potato mixture, and seal the edges.

    Deep fry the samosas until golden brown and crispy.

    Serve hot with mint chutney or tamarind sauce.
